There are many
aspects to computer security. Antivirus / Antispyware is one
but physical security of servers and data is equally
important. More data leaves a company without permission via
a USB flash drive than by any other method.

Security is a big topic for
computers. It tends to wrap itself into most areas of
computing itself. The following is a list of some of the
biggest security issues facing users.
- Viruses and
Malware.
- Physical
loss of equipment or data.
- Breaches of
your network from Hackers on the Internet.
- Compromises
of your wireless network.
- Flaws or
unpatched software on your system.
- Weak or
non-existent passwords.
- Properly
installed and configured firewall.

Each one of the topics above has
generated thousands of written words on the web. We have
covered some in the Antivirus section of this website.
Others like network breaches are covered under networks and
wireless networks. Under Computer Maintenance, we covered
software and security patches.
The important thing to remember
is that we are there to help you prevent these types of
security problems. Our client base (home users, micro and
small businesses) generally do not have a full time IT staff
person to handle these issues. They rely on us to provide
the expertise to prevent these issues from becoming problems.
At times, we may seem to be a little bit too security
conscious but we only have your best interest at heart. We
have seen too many situations where good guidelines were not
followed and brought some very unpleasant consequences.
Most of these areas can be
addresses fairly readily and affordable so there's really no
reason to have problem with these. They do need to be
aggressively addressed but addressing them is certainly
worth the time and effort. |
